DGR Tax Receipts

Australian Taxation Office (ATO) Guidelines

Donate a Dollar a Week Inc. is registered with the ACNC and endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) under Item 1. This means that all donations over $2.00 AUD made to our platform are fully tax-deductible for Australian taxpayers.

How Micro-Donation Deductions Work

According to ATO guidelines, single donations must be $2.00 AUD or more to be tax-deductible. Because our members contribute $1.00 AUD per week, individual weekly transactions are under this threshold.

To solve this administrative challenge and ensure your generosity remains tax-deductible, we utilize the **Consolidated Annual Receipt system**:

  • We track and accumulate all your weekly $1.00 micro-donations throughout the Australian financial year (which runs from July 1 to June 30 of the following year).
  • At the close of the financial year on June 30, we compile your total annual contributions (e.g. 52 weeks = $52.00 AUD) into a single consolidated tax statement.
  • Since the consolidated total ($52.00) is well above the $2.00 threshold, the ATO recognizes this statement as a single DGR donation, making it fully deductible on your tax return.

When and How Will I Receive My Receipt?

Your consolidated tax statement will be automatically generated and emailed to you in PDF format during the first week of July (typically by July 5).

The statement contains all details required by the ATO, including:

  • Our legal entity name: Donate a Dollar a Week Inc.
  • Our Australian Business Number (ABN): 12 345 678 910.
  • A statement indicating that the payment is a tax-deductible donation.
  • Your full legal name and the total annual amount contributed.

When completing your tax return using **myTax** or via a registered tax accountant, simply input the total amount listed on your PDF receipt under the "Gifts or Donations" section.
